STARTING THE ENGINE

Note: If your cab is equipped with an anti theft jack, you must insert it before starting the engine. Failure to do that will prevent the glow plugs to warm. You must also make sure that the gear lever is in the 'P' position to allow the starter motor to run, and that the fuel cut-off switch doesn't glow red.

Insert the key and turn it clockwise towards position 'I' to unlock the steering. If the steering lock remains engaged, slight movement of the steering wheel will release it. Further movement of the key clockwise to position 'II' will switch on the 'glow' plugs. The amber warning light (5) at the top right hand corner of the fascia will glow for approx. 3 seconds, indicating that the 'glow' plugs are operating. THE STARTER MOTOR SHOULD NOT BE ENGAGED UNTIL THE AMBER LIGHT GOES OUT. Starting is achieved by further movement of the key clockwise against spring pressure to the 'START' position.

The glow plugs will continue to operate whilst the starter motor is cranking the engine. The key will return to position 'II' under spring pressure when released.

To lock the steering, turn the key to the '0' position and withdraw the key.

Never turn the key to the '0' position while the vehicle is in motion.

WARNING: The steering-column lock/starter switch and its electrical circuits are designed to prevent the engine being started while the steering lock is engaged. Serious consequences could result from alteration or substitution of the steering-column lock/ starter switch or its wiring. In no circumstances must the starter switch be separated from the anti-theft device.

CAUTION: Do not lubricate the steering lock.

Starter
Do not operate the starter for more than five or six seconds at a time. If the engine fails to start the first time, do not use the starter again until the engine has stopped turning. Release the key immediately the engine fires and runs free.

Note: the starter motor may have to be operated for more than five or six seconds in cold weather conditions.

Battery charge indicator
If the no-charge warning light fails to go out, stop the engine, check the alternator driving belt, and adjust if necessary. If the adjustment is correct or adjustment fails to correct the fault, consult your Dealer as soon as possible. Use of the starter and/or lamps in these circumstances will exhaust the battery quickly.

Warming-up
Do not allow the engine to idle slowly while warming-up. The vehicle can be driven on the road immediately after starting-up, in which case hard acceleration or allowing the engine to labour must be avoided until normal working temperature is obtained.

Running-in
The following instructions must be strictly adhered to with a new vehicle or engine during the first 600 miles (1,000km).
Do not operate at full throttle in any gear.
Do not allow the engine to labour in any gear.

Filling with fuel
Do not fill the fuel tank to the extent that fuel is visible in the filler neck. If this happens, and the vehicle is parked in the sun, expansion will cause both loss of fuel and danger of fire from exposed fuel. Park the vehicle in the shade with the filler cap in as high a position as possible.

WARNING: The fuel tank is fitted with a vented filler cap. It is essential that a replacement cap is of the correct type.

Do not use oxygenated fuels such as blends of methanol/gasoline or ethanol/gasoline (e.g. GASHOL).

Empty fuel tank - diesel
In the event of the diesel fuel tank becoming completely empty, before the engine will start the fuel tank must be replenished and the fuel system must be primed to exclude all air.

DÉMARRAGE DU MOTEUR

Note : Si votre taxi est équipé d'un jack antivol, celui-ci doit être inséré avant le démarrage du moteur. Ne pas le faire empêchera les bougies de préchauffage de chauffer. Vous devez également vous assurer que le levier de vitesses est en position 'P' pour permettre au démarreur de tourner, et que le coupe circuit du carburant ne s'allume pas en rouge.

Insérez la clé et la tourner vers la position "I" pour débloquer le volant. Si le blocage de direction reste engagée, un léger mouvement du volant le libérera. Tourner davantage la clé dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre jusqu'à la position 'II' alimentera les bougies d'allumage. Le voyant d'alarme jaune (5) dans le coin supérieur droit du tableau de bord s'allumera pendant env. 3 secondes, indiquant que les bougies fonctionnent. LE MOTEUR NE DOIT PAS ETRE DEMARRE AVANT QUE LE VOYANT JAUNE NE S'ETEIGNE. Imprimer à la clé un mouvement supplémentaire vers la droite contre la pression du ressort jusqu'à la position 'START'.

Les bougies d'allumage continueront à fonctionner pendant que le démarreur lance le moteur. La clé reviendra à la position II sous la pression du ressort lorsque celle-ci est relâchée.

Pour bloquer la direction, tourner la clé vers la position '0' et retirer la clé.

Ne jamais tourner la clé en position '0' ou la retirer pendant que le véhicule est en mouvement.

AVERTISSEMENT: Le verrou de colonne de direction / contact et de ses circuits électriques sont conçus pour empêcher le démarrage du moteur alors que le blocage de direction est engagé. De graves conséquences pouvent résulter de l'altération ou la substitution du blocage de direction / contact. En aucun cas, le contact ne doit être séparé du dispositif anti-vol.

ATTENTION : Ne pas lubrifier l'antivol de direction.

Démarreur
Ne pas actionner le démarreur pendant plus de cinq ou six secondes à la fois. Si le moteur ne démarre pas la première fois, ne pas utiliser le démarreur à nouveau jusqu'à ce que le moteur ait cessé de tourner. Relâchez la clé dès que le moteur tourne.

Remarque : Le démarreur peut être actionné pendant plus de cinq ou six secondes par temps froid.

Voyant de charge de la batterie
Si le voyant de la batterie ne s'éteint pas, arrêter le moteur, vérifier la courroie d'alternateur, et ajuster si nécessaire. Si le réglage est correct ou si l'ajustement ne parvient pas à corriger le défaut, consultez votre revendeur dès que possible. L'utilisation du démarreur et / ou des feux dans ces circonstances va épuiser rapidement la batterie.

Echauffement
Ne pas laisser le moteur tourner au ralenti pendant l'échauffement. Le véhicule peut être conduit sur la route immédiatement après le démarrage, dans ce cas toute forte accélération ou tout effort du moteur doit être évité jusqu'à ce que le moteur a atteint sa température de travail normale.

Rodage
Les instructions suivantes doivent être strictement respectées avec un nouveau véhicule dont le moteur ne fonctionnera pas à pleine puissance durant les 1000 premiers km.
Ne pas forcer les vitesses pendant ce laps de temps.

Réservoir de carburant
Ne pas remplir le réservoir de carburant au maximum jusqu'à voir le carburant dans le goulot de remplissage. Si cela arrive, et le véhicule est stationné en plein soleil, l'expansion va causer à la fois la perte de carburant et le danger de feu du carburant exposé à la chaleur. Stationner le vehicule à l'ombre avec le bouchon de remplissage dans une position aussi élevée que possible.

AVERTISSEMENT: Le réservoir de carburant est équipé d'un bouchon ventilé. Il est essentiel que le bouchon de remplacement soit du type correct.

Ne pas utiliser des carburants oxygénés tels que des mélanges de méthanol/essence ou éthanol/essence.

Réservoir de carburant vide - Diesel
Au cas où le réservoir de carburant diesel deviendrait complètement vide, et avant que le moteur démarre, remplissez le réservoir et le système de carburant doit être amorcé afin d'exclure tout l'air.
