LA BAGUE DE COLONNE DE DIRECTION

C'est une petite bague de plastique, en tout point identique à celle que l'on trouve en haut de la colonne de direction des Austin Mini.
Il n'y a en principe pas à la changer, sauf si on commence à ressentir des vibrations dans le volant.
Vous risquez même d'être recalé au Contrôle Technique si les mouvements au volant sont trop importants.

STEERING COLUMN BUSH

It's a small plastic ring, identical to the top bush found on the Austin Mini steering column.
There is usually no need to change it, unless you start to feel vibrations in the steering wheel.
It can even be a cause of MOT failure if the steering wheel movements are too important.

HOW TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN BUSH

Carefully prize out centre pad and unscrew retaining nut.
Remove steering wheel from splined column.

Remove four screws and remove top cover from multi-switch.
Remove three screws and remove bottom cover.

Soulevez soigneusement la plaque du centre et dévisser l'écrou de retenue.
Retirez le volant de la colonne cannelée.

Dévissez les quatre vis et enlevez le couvercle supérieur du commodo.
Dévissez les trois vis et retirer le couvercle inférieur.

Slacken clamping screw to remove indicator cluster.
Desserrez la vis de serrage pour enlever le commodo.

Let the indicator cluster hang clear of the steering column.
Dégagez le commodo de la colonne de direction.

Une fois que le volant et le commodo sont dégagés, essayez de sortir l'ancienne bague avec un petit tournevis, un morceau de fil ou quelque chose de similaire. S'il est assez lâche pour vous avoir fait recaler au CT, il sortira certainement facilement (et très probablement en morceaux, aussi assurez-vous que vous avez tout sorti). On pousse la bague neuve avec de la graisse graphite étalée dessus. Taper doucement tout autour avec un maillet en caoutchouc et un morceau de bois comme un coin pour insérer la nouvelle bague à l'intérieur de la colonne de direction.

Once the steering wheel and Indicator cluster are out of the way, try to fish the old bush out with a small screw driver, a piece of wire or something similar. If it's loose enough to fail the MOT it'll probably come out easily (and quite likely in pieces so make certain you've got it all out). The new one just pushes in with the correct graphite grease smeared on it. Tap gently all around with a rubber mallet and a piece of wood as a wedge to insert the new bush inside the steering column.
